She and Her Husband Henry Purchased the Holtum Building in 1936 and for Eight Years Began the Process of Creating, Designing and Building. Inspired by Similar Buildings in Palo Alto and Carmel, She Set Out To Create A Shopping Area That Was Inspired by the California Missions. She Felt California Had A Unique History Which Should Be Preserved. They Acquired Old Adobe From Mexico, Huge Beams From an Old Building Being Torn Down At Fort Cronkite, Railroad Ties and Spikes From the Mountain Railway Near by and Hand-Made Tiles and Wrought Iron Fixtures From the Guatemala Building At the World’s Fair On Treasure Island.
